It’s Bey Day! We couldn’t let September 4 pass without paying homage to the Virgo of all Virgos, Beyonce herself! Not only is Beyonce a power performer, mega star and genuine artist, but she is a philanthropist who uses her platform to bring awareness to social issues that matter. In recent years, Beyonce has been nothing short of candid in expressing her advocacy for making adequate spaces in entertainment for black people; she hired young black stylist Zerina Akers, has dedicated her last two albums to narrating authentic stories of black identity, has provided resources and plugs for upcoming black talent in music, AND has been spotted wearing black designers. While Beyonce has featured a rolodex of designers in her wardrobe for years, she took things to the next level during the On the Run II tour, where nearly ALL of her custom looks have been designed by black designers so far (Olivier Roesting of Balmain, Laquan Smith and Dapper Dan just to name a few). In honor of Bey Day, we’re looking back at some of our favorite Beyonce style moments featuring black designers. Enjoy and go support a black fashion designer for yourself!
